Sleeping is a difficult job. Our bodies release harmful fluids through our skin, such as sweat, while we sleep. Sometimes, we even go to bed dirty.

This all goes to your mattress. After some time it will need to be cleaned if you want it to remain comfortable to sleep on.

Top-rated memory foam mattresses and toppers are now in high demand. However, you cannot wash them exactly the same as any other mattress. This item is unique so you need to know a bit about it to be able to care for it properly.

Today’s article will show you how to wash a memory foam mattress topper in just a few simple steps. We have included some tips to make your bed maintenance easier.

Cleaning Preparation

Before we get into the cleaning, we want you to be prepared and to think carefully about what to do before we start. These are the things you will need:

  • There is enough space for the topper to be laid down for drying and washing.
  • A few cotton slotshs or towels
  • Plain spray bottle
  • Vinegar/baking soda/detergent
  • Laundry detergent that is non-abrasive (liquid)
  • Dry hair
  • Vacuum cleaner with a hose attached

Is It Partial Or Complete Cleaning?

Depending on the condition of the mattress topper, there are two options for cleaning it: tight cleaning or spot cleaning the entire thing. Both are possible, so we will start with the first.

Partial Cleaning

This is for people who wish to remove stains from specific areas on the top. This is how it’s done.

1. Vacuuming the surface

Spread the topper on a dry, clean surface. This could be done in a room covered with a plastic sheet.

After you have placed the topper, vacuum it using the mattress-vacuuming extend. This will allow you to remove any dust or other small particles that may have made it into the top.

2.

Clean the stain

It is now time to find and remove those stains and spots that have gotten in the way of vacuuming. You can use many cleaning agents, but we recommend using either vinegar and baking soda together.

If you want to remove odors and stains as well, the first option will work better than the second. A third option will clean it.

a) Vinegar/detergent

Combine the vinegar and a small amount of water. Use a little bit of the vinegar to stain and then wipe it off with a towel until it is gone.

Once the spots have disappeared, you can use the detergent. Mix it the same as vinegar. However, you might need to add more water. Use a sterile towel to soak the detergent in it. Then, spread the detergent over the area.

If you wish, you can spray it with a sprayer. Let it rest for approximately half an hour. It takes time to do its job.

b) Baking soda

Mix water and baking soda in a 2:2 ratio. Stir it until you get a clear solution. Use a cloth to wipe off the solution. You could leave it for around an hour.

3. Rinsing

After waiting the recommended time, fill the spray can with water and spray the detergent/baking soda on the surface. Use a soft cloth to wipe the water off after each spray. This will remove any foaming cleaning agent from the area.

4. Blotting

Once there is no more sterile layer, use an absorbent cloth to tap the affected area. Once the fabric is wet, dry it and go back to the original procedure.

5. 5. Drying

Drying is next after the cleaning is complete.

You can leave the mattress alone to make a room airy or to install a fan.

You can also dry the wet stains with a hair dryer. This is a faster method. The dryer should not be too close to the top of the topper, as it could cause damage.

If both sides of the mattress topper are stained, you can simply flip the topper over and repeat the six steps on the other side.

The entire mattress topper should be washed

Spot-cleaning will not remove deep and heavy stains such as coffee, juice, urine, or any other liquid spillage. You will need to wash the entire thing.

This is because the fluids have gotten trapped in the memory foam. You must remove it completely.

People who have children who do not sleep on memory foam mattresses know that it is difficult to remove pee stains from standard mattresses.

How do you wash a topper whole?

Perform the five first steps from the previous section (from vacuuming to blotting) and then proceed with the next:

1.Wash

Place your Topper on a clean, even surface and wash it with cold water. Pay attention to whether each detergent was rinsed off as you wash your Topper. You can wipe off any sterile areas that may have formed and then rinse them again.

2. 2. Drain

After the topper has been soaked, roll it in the towel and gently press to remove any excess water. It is important not to squeeze the top too much and it should not be tumble dried as this can cause damage to its softness and structure.

3. 3.

Topper washing is best done in an area with high airflow, shade from the sun and good ventilation. To speed up the process, fans and blow dryers can be used.

Cleaning A Memory Foam Topper: What To Avoid

This section will discuss the do’s and don’ts of washing memory foam topper. Memory foam is not a fabric that can be cleaned in the same way as other fabrics.

These Are The Most Common Mistakes That You Should Avoid

You should not place the topper on the mattress again until it is completely dry.

Mold-forming conditions can be created if there is even a little moisture left. This can lead to serious health problems.

Do not leave your topper unattended in the sun.During the hottest part of the day. It should be placed in shade. It’s okay to let it out in the sun after the heat has subsided a bit in the afternoon.

Use a high-quality detergent that is not cheap to clean the stains. This could cause discoloration to the topper’s surfaces.

Blondrying should be done on a low setting and in a safe area. Heat can cause damage to the top of the dryer.

Machine washing, squeezing orAvoid tumble dryingAt all costs. These activities can cause memory foam to suffer and may even result in its loss of performance.

Do not wash it with hot water.

Enhancing the longevity of memory foam mattress toppers

Covers Are A Must

To protect your favorite topper, a cover is one of the best items you can get. It will protect your memory foam from staining and clean it easily.

There are many covers on the market today, but we recommend that you choose a cotton cover. Cotton is soft and comfortable under the skin. It’s also much more healthy than synthetic materials.

Flip The Top

Memory foam can lose its stability over time. It’s great to reverse this trend every now and again. This will allow the side that is taking the most pressure from the top to relax while the clean side takes its place.

Pay Attention To The Label

Be sure to read the care label to ensure that you know what to do with this item when it comes to washing.

Finally

Although it may seem difficult, washing the mattress topper is a vital task. Follow the steps and your memory foam topper will last a lifetime.
